Good morning all!
Welcome to all new students and those returning after the summer break.
The University team have been busy over the summer making improvements to your facilities and services. In case you're feeling lost, here are some things you may find useful to know:
Student Information Hub (at main Reception)
The Information Hub is part of the first port of call for students. including for Student Support services. At the desk they will be able to deal with general queries, or if further help is needed will be able to refer you on to the correct person. As the rest of the student hub opens up then all of the required services will be easily signposted from the desk, including Student Support, Finance and Registry.
Renaming of rooms
The sides of the quad have been renamed to correspond with North/ South/ East/ West. If you just remember that the reception is North and library is the West wing you can probably work the rest out.
In addition, rooms have been renumbered - all ground floor rooms now start with a 1; next floor up with a 2 etc, so you should be able to easily work out which floor the room you are looking for is on.
Work has been progressing all summer. The Student Bar is expected to open in October (date to be finalised) and the rest of the student hub later in the term. The SU will keep you up to date with the timings and opening night details.
Improvements to accommodation
Most of you will spot that the Village and the Halls are looking a lot smarter on the outside, with roofing, windows and painting going on, but there has also been a lot going on inside, including some new open plan living spaces and a huge number of new kitchens and bathrooms...
1. Full internal and external decoration of all student accommodation - 460 bedrooms, 80 kitchen/diners over 200 shower and toilet rooms plus corridors and stairwells
2. Creation of 26 open plan kitchen diners in student accommodation, 8 ambulant showers and 12 new upstairs shower / wet rooms in the 5 bedroom houses.
Across the teaching spaces you'll find:
1. Two new 30-station computer labs and two new 60-seater teaching rooms
2. Upgrade of audio-visual equipment in a number of teaching rooms
Finally, you'll find a new gaming room for students to be able take your Xbox/Playstation equipment and play on-line outside the restrictions of our internet.
What to do if you need maintenance or housekeeping services
These should be requested through the University Helpdesk system. Type http://helpdesk/ into a Marjon connected computer and log in with your Marjon user name and password. Select the helpdesk you require – drop down box for Maintenance, Housekeeping, Computing Services, Campus services. Please ensure you complete the job location information – Hall and room number or Village house and room letter.
With best regards
