Volunteering at the Marjon Memory Cafe

The Marjon Memory Café provides an opportunity for people with dementia and other memory disorders and their family and carers to regularly meet up and exchange information and their experiences of living with memory problems. Marjon Memory Café offers a friendly and informal environment where guests can feel safe and enjoy the outing from home.

The café is supported by Marjon student volunteers and therefore we are appealing to students to get involved in our cafes on campus to support the local community, plus having the opportunity to gain experiences of working alongside people with dementia and their carers.

Students are encouraged to help with organised activities that can provide fun and beneficial surroundings for people with dementia. Activities we offer are emphasized on reminiscing, and this can involve discussion around old photos, familiar items from the past, music and films. Other activities can also include games and art & craft sessions.

If you would like to get involved please email Faye on The first session will commence on Wednesday 20th September from 1:30-3:30 and then on a fortnightly basis. We encourage students to be come regular volunteers but welcome anyone who is willing to take part on an ad hoc basis.

We encourage all student to log any volunteering hours and therefore if you would like to receive a log book please contact Faye in the first instance.

Happy volunteering :-)
