On this day in history. 8th June 1913 saw the death of Emily Wilding Davison, suffragette. Hope everybody is planning to vote today - its a hard-won opportunity that even today not everyone has. In our archive is a record from a student diary - he and a friend took an unofficial day off from their studies and went to the races. It happened to be the Derby - when they both saw the suffragette Emily Wilding Davison fall in front of the Kings horse as part of a suffragette protest at women not being given the vote. The race itself was held on 4th June, she died 4 days later of her injuries.
Remember 8th June
