South Dartmoor Community College (www.southdartmoor.devon.sch.uk) have a thriving DofE set-up with 180 children, from a wide range of backgrounds, engaged with the Bronze and Silver awards.
There are opportunities for Marjon students, ideally with an Outdoor Adventure background, but also for other students interested in the area to get involved with the expedition training element of the awards.
The first training weekend takes place on the 3 and 4 April with other sessions planned for May, the start of the summer holiday and October half-term.
For the ‘right’ students there may be an opportunity to complete career development training or have some of their expenses reimbursed. There may also be the opportunity to get involved with Ten Tors training and for committed students the chance to undertake research for their dissertation or other projects/case studies. With the appropriate permissions students may also be able to use the hours towards placement modules.
Interested students would need to be DBS checked via the school and ideally would need to be available on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 March between 1600 and 1730 to complete these checks and other paperwork to register as a volunteer with the school.
