INTERNAL VACANCY FOR CURRENT MARJON STUDENTS ONLY

Computing & Media Services STUDENT IT SUPPORT ADVISOR

Fixed term to 31 July 2017

Shifts between 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday Possible Weekend Duties

Salary: £6.70 + 12% holiday pay

As part of its service to support student IT, the University wishes to again appoint Student IT Support Assistants. They will form part of the highly effective Student IT Support (SITS) service based in 24 hr open access area but supporting students across the Marjon open access areas. The scheme is designed to ensure that support for students with IT queries is available Monday to Friday until 9.00 p.m. term time and more hours at additional pressure points, e.g. near dissertation  hand-in dates.

The student assistants will each work one evening a week based in 24 hr open access area and, possibly, on some weekends to be confirmed if need is proven.  Student assistants may be expected to involve themselves in more technical aspects of the University academic network as directed by CS team and must have experience in general network management (e.g. file handling, logging laptops onto wifi, basic printing tasks, using PaperCut) and general MS Office applications like Word, PowerPoint and Excel.  Assistance with scanning and the use of a graphics package like PaintShop Pro would be an advantage. All SITS team members will need to be proactive and seek a resolution to a problem if possible using online resources (Google, YouTube etc...) and Marjon information sources. The SITS team will be expected to have a proactive approach to assisting students and produce help files and posters as appropriate.

Student assistants will be given training and support. They will be shown how to assist with printing problems and, where necessary, to refer problems on to ITTS for MS Office and Computing Services for hardware and network issues.
