Information Assistant  

Post A is x2 evenings (Mon/Tues/Fri 16:00-20:00) and x1 weekend day (11:00-16:00) – 13 hours per week

Post B is x1 evening (Mon/Tues/Fri 16:00-20:00) and x1 weekend (11:00-16:00) – 9 hours per week

Grade: 2 £8.25 an hour + 12% holiday uplift

Applications are invited to join our team of front facing Information Assistants in the Library.  As part of the Library team, you will play an integral role in the delivery of our services, helping to ensure the smooth running of the library by undertaking essential routine tasks.

Working as part of the team in the evening and at weekends, we are looking for people with outstanding customer care skills, who will act as the initial point of contact, dealing with enquiries or redirecting as necessary. Other duties will include shelving returned materials, shelf tidying, roving the Library to provide assistance to users, and ensuring appropriate user behaviour. A significant amount of time will also be dedicated to supporting our acquisitions team and reading lists scheme, so accuracy and attention to detail is crucial.

Educated to GCSE level including English and Maths, you will need a customer focused attitude to work and will be capable of dealing with difficult behaviour in a confident, calm and tactful manner. You will need excellent IT skills, and must have the physical capacity to lift, carry and shelve piles of books. You must be reliable, punctual and flexible, as these posts are essential for the Library being able to operate our evening & weekend hours. Please note that these are lone working posts. These are temporary posts until the end of April which are open only to staff and students of the University whilst the Library reviews its services and staffing levels. There can be some flexibility in evening start times in order to accommodate academic commitments.
