Recruiting males (age 18-35) who undertake 4+ hours of physical activity each week.
Our study is attempting to determine the validity and reliability of various devices for measureming core body temperature during exercise in the heat. It is hoped that our data will help prevent heat illness in the British Armed Forces. The study will include:
-A 1 hour visit to assess your aerobic fitness (VO2max), height, weight and body fat percentage
-2x 3 hours visits where you will walk for a total of 80 minutes (with a 20 minute rest after 40 minutes) in military uniform in the heat (30 degrees/40% humidity). During these visits we will instrument you with 5 core temperature measurement devices and will take venous blood samples pre, post and 1 hour post exercise. Both of the trials will take place between approx. 8.30 to 11.30 am and can be arranged any day of the week.
