Why don't you have a go?
To select a word: double click anywhere in the word
To select a sentence: hold down the <Ctrl> key on the keyboard and click anywhere in the sentence
To select a paragraph: move the cursor to the left margin area of the paragraph until it turns into an arrow, and then double-click
To select the entire document (even if it 500+ pages): hold down the <Ctrl> and A keys on the keyboard – or alternatively move the cursor to the left margin area of the text until it turns into an arrow, and then triple-click!
To select specific text: place the cursor before the required text; whilst holding down the <shift> key click at the end of your required selection
