If you thrive in the outdoors and are looking for new places to visit, then there are plenty of activities that are running through the Burrator Discovery Centre with South West Lakes Truest, below is a summary of their programme of events until Christmas.

Evening Talks

  • Tuesday 10 Oct: 7.30pm-8.30pm Evening Talk: ‘Fungi  Identification’. An introduction to Fungi and how to identify common Fungi, by Wilderness Woman. £3 per person, 50p a drink. Please book  your place in advance.


  • Tuesday 7 Nov: 7.30pm-8.30pm Evening Talk: ‘'Archaeological and historic notes  on the development of Longstone'by Colin Wakeham at Burrator Discovery Centre.  £3 per person, 50p per drink. Please book your place in advance.


Guided Walks

  • Saturday 14 Oct: 10am-12pm – Guided Walk: ‘Practical  Fungi Identification’. Come and learn how to identify fungi around Burrator with Wilderness Woman. You don’t need to have been to the talk beforehand. £3 per person. Please book your place in advance.


Centre Exhibitions

  • Sunday 29 Oct: 10am-4pm – FREE Exhibition on Letterboxing, come & see some real collectors’ items, and meet other fellow letter boxers.


Family Events

  • Wednesday 25 Oct: 10am-3pm – Family Activity ‘Drop In’  Day. Outdoor cooking, woodwork, environmental art & nature trails.

£2 per child, £1 per adult.

  • Sunday 29 Oct: 10.30am – 12.30pm – ‘Let’s go Letterboxing!’ As part of our monthly family wildlife watch session come and try our letterboxing challenge. Session will include a short walk and activities on route, followed by hot chocolate & biscuits. £2 per child, £1 per adult.


  • Tuesday 31 Oct: 6pm-8pm - Come and join us for our annual ‘Spooktacular’ evening at Burrator!       Traditional Halloween activities plus night walk, pumpkin carving and spooky stories. Costumes encouraged, but not compulsory. £2 per person. Please book your place in advance.


  • Sunday 26 Nov: 10.30am-12.30pm – Come and make some Christmas woodland crafts as part of our monthly family wildlife watch session, along with some other activities, followed by hot chocolate & biscuits.  £2 per child, £1 per adult. Meet at Burrator Discovery Centre.


  • Wednesday  20 Dec: - 10am-3pm – Family Activity ‘Drop In’ Day at Burrator Discovery Centre. Will involve Christmas themed outdoor cooking, woodwork, art and trail. £2 per child, £1 per adult.


Christmas Events for Everyone

  • Saturday  16 Dec: 10am-4pm – Christmas  Wreath Making at Burrator! Come and make your own wreath out of natural materials at Burrator Discovery Centre. £7 a wreath. Support,  materials and refreshments provided.


  • Sunday 17 Dec: 11am-3pm – Burrator Christmas Tree Walk. Come & join SWLT for our annual Christmas tree event, which includes a walk, the chance to choose and cut down your own Christmas tree, and enjoy mulled wine & mince pies.  £15 per tree. Meet at Burrator Discovery Centre.
